About

What is Biblical Counseling?

Simply put, Biblical Counseling is remedial discipleship.

As followers of Jesus, we are all seeking to walk in His footsteps and grow in His likeness. But, sometimes we get stuck. Sometimes we experience a season of depression, or anxiety, or times of conflict with our spouse or loved ones, or any other of a number of difficulties. Sometimes we need a helping hand, someone to talk to, and guidance from the Scriptures. Biblical Counseling meets that need.

Statement of Faith

I agree with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselor’s “Standards of Doctrine” found at: https://biblicalcounseling.com/resource-library/articles/the-standards-of-doctrine-of-the-association-of-certified-biblical-counselors/

What to Expect

Upon scheduling the first session, the counselor will ask you to access the appropriate intake paperwork under the “Forms” tab. If you are meeting with the counselor in person, please print and fill out the form, and bring it with you to your first appointment. If meeting online, please fill out the form, and email it back to the counselor ahead of the first appointment. During the first session, the counselor will go over the paperwork with you, will discuss what you are seeking support with, and will discuss a plan for addressing your struggle.

Following sessions will work through the plan that was set in place at the first session. As each individual’s situation is different, the number of sessions needed, or wanted, can vary depending upon the case. The goal, however, is to get the counselee back on their feet as quickly as possible.

When coming for session, please bring a Bible, a notebook and pen for notes, and completed homework assignments.

Sessions cost $75/hour, whether in person, or online. There is a sliding scale upon request. Fees for in-person counseling can be paid at the end of each session, by cash or personal check. Fees for online counseling will be paid through Square; the counselor will send an invoice after the first session and prior to all other sessions. Prior to online sessions, the counselor will send the counselee a Microsoft Teams link. Microsoft Teams is HIPPA compliant.

About the Counselor

After growing up in Central Maine, in 2003 I moved to Pennsylvania, where I was introduced to Biblical Counseling through my church. One of my pastors, Dr. Wayne Mack, taught Biblical Counseling at Master’s Seminary in California.  He fervently believed that Biblical Counseling belonged in the church, so he held seminars on how to do Biblical Counseling in order to equip the Christians in local churches to care for each other. I attended many of those seminars and read a lot of books on the subject.

A few years later, Dr. Ted Tripp and the elders at his church mentored me and encouraged me to pursue a career in Biblical Counseling. While independently studying Biblical Counseling, I enrolled at Liberty University, where I earned my MA in Professional Counseling.

Having grown up in Maine, I remembered the spiritual darkness that still exists here, and the lack of Biblical Counseling.  I wanted to move back and share the hope that comes from applying the fullness of the gospel to everyday life. So, in 2012 I moved my family back to Maine and started the long process of pursuing Maine licensure and opening an office.

I have counseled with a Biblical Counseling agency, under a prison chaplaincy, and in multiple church settings.  Secularly, I have worked as a mental health community integration worker, as a secular counselor, and as the Clinical Director/Clinical Supervisor for a secular mental health agency.

Today, I live with my wife of two decades.  We have six children and a small farm in Midcoast Maine.
